Collective Action (and why we created ComeLetsBuy)

To start by quoting Clay Shirky, the Internet is providing us all tools for “ridiculously easy group forming”.

People have always been able to form groups, and there’s nothing new about that, but what the Internet has done is to make it incredibly easy to gather as a group. And it can be a group of anthing, a bunch of friends or a group of strangers with the same interests.

Up until very recently though, the Internet was only able to group people in conversations (chat rooms), sharing (Twitter) and collaborations (Wikipedia), which are great tools but their interactions are really usually restrained to the virtual world - with fantastic exceptions such as the Iran election case.

And because we believe on the merge – and not the differentiation – between cyberspace and the real world, we decided back in July/2009 to create a website that facilitates group forming for action - in our case: shopping. To be in a group on ComeLetsBuy.com means to have the power of demanding the prices and the items we really want.

That’s why we call it the Collective Shopping Platform™. It’s not about talking about it or sharing what we shop, it’s about getting together, forming our own group and having the power of getting the best deals possible.

And we are happy to launch. Enjoy!
